What gets in the way

Licensed work, unlicensed paperwork

Electrical jobs carry permits, inspections and two labour rates. Keeping that straight across spreadsheets and texts is a job on its own.

Two rates, one job

Journeyman and apprentice hours priced at one blended guess.

Inspection limbo

Jobs waiting for inspection disappear from view.

Material creep

Wire, boxes and breakers bought on the fly never reach the job cost.

How Universal Workflow helps

Quote, wire, inspect, invoice

Quotes with the right labour rates

Set electrician and apprentice rates as services, keep wire, devices and panels in your material library, and add the service call or permit as fixed prices.

  • Labour by the hour at each rate
  • Permit and inspection fees as fixed services
  • Tax and deposits on the quote

Inspection as a stage

Add Inspection to your statuses so jobs waiting on the inspector stay visible on the board. Book the inspection visit on the planner with the task Inspection.

Hours, mileage and approvals

Electricians and apprentices log hours by job and the trips they drive. Approvers review the team's timesheets and download a payroll summary.

A job from start to finish

A 200-amp panel upgrade

A homeowner needs a panel upgrade before a basement renovation.

  1. Quote. Panel, breakers and wire from the library; electrician and apprentice hours; permit as a fixed service.
  2. Book. The upgrade is scheduled for Tuesday with both crew members.
  3. Inspect. The job moves to Inspection, and the inspection visit is booked on Thursday.
  4. Invoice. Once it passes, the invoice goes out with a Pay button and e-Transfer details.

FAQ

Questions from electrical contractors

Can’t find your answer? Send us a message and we’ll get back to you.

Can I use different labour rates?

Yes. Each quote line has its own labour rate, and services such as electrician and apprentice time can carry their own hourly rates.

Can I track jobs waiting for inspection?

Yes. Add an Inspection status; it gets its own count and filter on the job board.

Can my team log hours by job?

Yes. Timesheets tie each entry to a job, with overtime worked out from your rules.

Does it work with QuickBooks?

Growth and Premium include QuickBooks Online integration for invoices and payment status.

Can I set separate electrician and apprentice rates?

Yes. Set each rate as its own service priced by the hour, and add each person's hours to the quote.

Can I ask for a deposit before ordering materials?

Yes. Add a deposit to the quote and request it from the job; the balance is invoiced when the work is done.
